12 Weeks Pregnant
Your uterus is now around your pelvic bones. You may start to experience
heartburn. Eating less spicy foods and smaller meals can help avoid getting it.
The placenta now produces the hormone progesterone that help maintain the
pregnancy. Mood swings should lighten up. You may feel like vomiting at this
stage in your pregnancy. Because your blood pressure is low, you hands and feet
may feel cold at times. If you were pregnant before or were taking birth
control and had headaches, there's a good chance you'll have headaches again.
Avoid taking aspirin during your pregnancy. Talk to your doctor if your
headaches are interrupting your daily life. Lying in a dark room with a cool
facecloth can help reduce the headache pain. This is because the veins and
arteries are relaxed.
Your Baby At 12 Weeks
The baby can now inhale and exhale amniotic fluid into the lungs. The swallowing
of the amniotic fluid continues until birth is given. The eyes are now closer
and the tongue’s taste buds can now taste the amniotic fluid. The baby now has
a human appearance with all 23 tooth buds but no actual teeth. The eyes are now
closer apart. The brain will now have the same structure as it's going to be at
birth. The baby's intestines that have grown quickly and may now go into the
abdominal cavity. The pancreas, thyroid and bladder will develop completely.
The baby's pancreas is now starting to produce insulin and the liver is
creating bile. Movement helps the baby's muscles grow and strengthening. Your
baby now weighs 14 grams, is 3.54 inches in complete length and has a heartbeat
of 160 beats per minute.
