16 Weeks Pregnant
You have an increased blood flow which may give you a glowing look. Some women
may experience nose bleeds. This is because the hormones are changing causing
the mucus membranes in the nose to swell. Vitamin C may help with the nose
bleeds. Do not take any type of nose drips unless prescribed by your doctor.
You may start to feel your baby kick, but most times it’s not until 18 or 20
weeks. The pressure on your bladder will be relieved resulting in not as many
bathroom trips. If you are thin or have had a child before you may begin to
feel the baby move around. The baby moving may help decide when your due date
will be around.
It’s a good idea to get plenty of fluids. Drink plenty of water. Unless your
doctor prescribes, don’t go on a low salt diet. Iodized salt is recommended in
the diet. Avoid canned soups, processed or cured meats and salty snacks. Having
too much salt in your diet can result in excessive fluid retention.
Eating more iron is necessary. As the volume if blood is increased, so isn’t
your baby’s own blood supply which results in iron increase in your diet. Many
cold cereals offer 100% of the daily iron intake you need. It’s a good idea to
avoid iron supplements because those can cause constipation and GI stress. For
snacks try some dry fruit.
Your Baby At 16 Weeks
The pattern of the scalp has begun but the hair won’t be recognizable just yet.
The baby is 3 ounces and 6.3 inches. An ultrasound may be able to detect the
baby’s gender. Also on the ultra sound you may be able to hear the baby suck
his or her thumb. Blinking of the eyes is now starting as well.
