20 Weeks Pregnant
You are now at the halfway point in your pregnancy! If you haven’t already, you
will start to show visible signs that you are indeed pregnant, and you will
experience mild attending symptoms during this week. Overall, your mood and
energy levels will definitely be on the rise. Speaking of which, your baby will
also take on more of a personality this week. You and your partner will be able
to frequently feel the baby move, and may even be able to hear a heartbeat! We
will take a closer look at the changes occurring during this week, and preview
what to expect in future weeks.
Taking Shape
During this week, your baby is starting to develop many characteristics. Hair
is beginning to grow on your baby’s head, and teeth have developed in the gums.
Your baby now weighs between 9 and 10 ounces, and is approximately 10 inches
long. Basically, your baby has taken shape and possesses all the parts
attributable to newborns. In fact, your baby now has a sleep schedule which
will probably remain the same after birth. As mentioned earlier, the baby will
become much more active, and you will often feel your baby’s movements during
this week and weeks to come.
Week 20 Changing Shape
Your body will undergo more prominent changes this week, as your uterus will
settle at your navel. This will give your belly button an “outtie” effect, and
may cause some discomfort and/or itching. This is a perfectly normal
occurrence, and is no need for concern. Other effects during this week should
be mild, but may include shortness of breath, vision problems, and the
occasional headache. Overall, however, you should be feeling good and may want
to take this week to schedule a childbirth class. Classes typically begin
around Week 30, so you definitely want to register as soon as possible if you
plan on attending.
Looking Forward In Your Pregnancy
Continue to eat right, drink plenty of fluids, and exercise regularly. All of
these factors will contribute to a much smoother, more pleasant delivery. In
the weeks to come, you can expect to feel your baby kicking frequently, and
should be able to hear a heartbeat within a short time. You should keep
learning as much as you can about your body, and listen to what it is telling
you. If something doesn’t feel right, ask your doctor. Lastly, stay positive,
and know that it won’t be long now. You have passed the halfway marker, and you
are just a few short months away from delivery!
