27 Weeks Pregnant
You are now in the final week of your second trimester! Your baby is continuing
to grow at a fast pace, and you can expect to put on additional pounds in the
weeks to come. Don’t be discouraged by this, as it just means the baby is
maturing properly and your body is accommodating that progress. Speaking of
progress, let’s take a look at what you and your baby are going through this
week.
27 Weeks Coming Into Focus
Your baby checks in at 2 pounds this week, while measuring close to 14 ½
inches. While the brain and lungs continue to evolve, your baby is also
developing more fat layers for protection. The eyes are rounding into shape
this week as well, with the retinas forming and eyelids opening. Your baby will
now begin the process of preparing to see after birth, by recognizing light
through your abdomen and blinking often. You will probably start to see from
this point on that your baby will have a more predictable sleep pattern, which
should be helpful in planning your own rest times.
Catch Your Breath
You will probably gain a few more pounds this week, as your skin continues to
pull tighter around your midsection. As you have done the past few weeks,
continue using lotion and/or cocoa butter to help alleviate the itchiness. You
may also find that it is hard to breathe at times. This is a normal symptom
during this stage of pregnancy, and rest assured that both you and the baby are
getting plenty of oxygen. It just feels a bit strained because your uterus is
putting pressure on your rib cage, hindering expansion during breaths.
Looking Forward In Your Pregnancy
Congratulations! You are now about to enter your third and final trimester. The
weeks will seem to drag on as you get anxious about delivery day, but you can
keep your mind busy. By attending childbirth classes, making plans for the
baby’s room, and reading up on what to expect in the weeks to come, you can
help the calendar along a bit. Just be sure not to neglect your diet and
exercise! They are crucial elements from here on out in helping both you and
your baby experience a smooth delivery, and who wouldn’t want that?
