2 Weeks Pregnant
This week your pregnancy will most likely still go undetected, although some
woman claim they just know and have that feeling when fertilization does occur.
You won't begin to feel any changes in your body at this point, though your
uterine lining is developing to accommodate its new occupant. Your body will
continue to adapt to house and nourish this new life.
The Fertilized Egg
Two cells are created from the fertilized egg. The cell then continues to divide
as it makes its way through the fallopian tube to the uterus. Once it settles
into the uterus, it is a moruk, a cluster of 30 self-contained cells. Thus
begins the embryonic stage of development. It is during this stage that all of
the major organs are formed and the baby is referred to as the embryo. What
starts out as a cluster of cells starts to take on the real shape and form of a
baby.
Changing Needs
Whatever you out in your mouth will now have a direct effort on your baby as it
feeds off of your bloodstream. The good news is that since you are eating for
two, you should be taking in an extra 500 calories per day. Your body’s needs
for protein, iron, folic acid and calcium increases. If you aren’t taking in
enough nutrients to support the growing bundle inside of you, it will take what
it needs from your own body's supply and leave you feeling drained.
The mother-to-be should also stay well hydrated and take a prenatal vitamin as
prescribed by a doctor. This is a crucial time in the baby's development and
the environment its in will have a lasting effect. Preventative care is the
best way to handle your pregnancy. Keeping regular checkups with your doctor
will keep him aware of any changes going on and will allow him to adjust your
lifestyle accordingly with the baby’s best interest at heart.
