9 Weeks Pregnant
The embryo is now referred to as the fetus, which is straightening out
lengthwise while the tail is shrinking. Though the head mains
disproportionately bigger than the body, the rate at which the head is growing
slows down. The hands have nearly defined fingers and they are growing at a
faster rate than the legs, feet and toes. The fetus is roughly one inch long.
All of the major organs have been formed and now comes the finer details. The
baby’s hair and nails will start to fill out.
Movement
As the muscles develop, the fetus can make tiny movements. When the uterine wall
is touched, the baby will move. This allows the mother-to-be to feel her baby
from the inside for the first time. You will be able to feel sudden movements
in your lower belly. Some refer to this as a fluttering feeling or like
butterflies dancing in their stomachs. These movements can also be tracked in
an ultrasound.
Skin Changes
Your skin will fill out. It will become plumper and smoother with occasional
pimple breakouts. Unfortunately, looking like a teenager won’t necessarily make
you feel like one again. The skin tends to retain more oil while the hair tends
to be less oily when you are pregnant.
Feeling Pregnant
You will actually feel pregnant in the coming weeks. Feeling the baby’s
movements and your own body changing shape will add to these feelings. You may
have trouble sleeping despite feeling overly tired. Finding a comfortable
sleeping position become challenging task. Some women also experience stress
over their changing body shape and the thoughts of the baby-to-be. Hormones can
also be blamed for nasal congestion and the occasional nosebleed. There is some
light at the end of the tunnel though. As the placenta starts to do its job,
the baby is less taxing on your body and you get a break from your raging
hormones.
