Madras eye is conjunctivitis. there are a few basic tips
1) This is very contagious so if you touch the eye or other fomites ( towel/kerchief -anything that would have touched that persons eye) wash hands well preferably with a disinfectant.
2) Using glasses does NOT help
3) Looking at a person wit conjunctivitis or vice versa does not transmit the disease
Transfer is by contact with infected material, not airborne.
Although some natural treatment like Treating conjuctivitis with corriander seed extracts can be seen at

Conjunctivitis, commonly known as "pink eye", is an inflammation of the membrane (conjunctiva) that covers the eye and lining of the eye. The most common form of the condition is bacterial conjunctivitis, which can also be potentially serious. The most common bacteria that cause conjunctivitis are Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and H. Influenza.
