Pharmacy Chicago

The University of Illinois at Chicago is part of the larger University of Illinois. With approximately 36,000 students attending the urban campus, UIC is the largest university in the Chicago area. UIC's College of Pharmacy is the university's oldest academic unit, and the third oldest college of pharmacy in the united States. The college in composed of the Center for Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, the Institute for Tuberculosis Research, the Center for Botanical Dietary Supplement Research in Women's Health, and the Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research. Those enrolled in the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy constitute around 615 members of the university's total population.

The History of the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy

The College of Pharmacy has it's origins with a collective of druggists. They offered additional training for their pre-existing private apprenticeship programs. The College of Pharmacy joined the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1896. Since then, the college has evolved and grown through changes in location, name, and academic structure. The UIC College of Pharmacy is part of one of the world's largest health systems, as it is located in urban Chicago's Illinois Medical District.

Today, students interested in pursuing various branches of pharmacy find a number of paths to follow at the the UIC College of Pharmacy. The college offers graduate programs to those who have already completed prepharmacy courses, undergraduate school and respective training. Those wishing to become retail pharmacists can study at the school, and it also has a programs for other branches of studies related to pharmacology. The College of Pharmacy offers four degree programs, where students can earn a Ph.D in Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Forensic Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, as well as a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.
