Chinese Pregnancy Calendar

In theory, you can use the Chinese pregnancy calendar (commonly misspelled as "Chinnese Pregnancy Calender") to determine the gender of your baby. You can also use it to plan the gender of you child before conception.

How Does the Chinese Pregnancy Calendar Work?

The Chinese Pregnancy Calendar uses fixed information about the mother to determine gender. According to the calendar, the mother's age at conception and the month of conception work together to determine the sex of the child. Within these fixed elements, one would also be able to plan the sex of a child. The "calendar" itself is actually a chart with ages 18 - 45 running horizontally across the top of the chart, and the 12 months January through December running vertically down the left side of the chart. This is the common format for the calendar, but it can also be found with the axes reversed. To find the sex of a child, locate the point on the chart where the appropriate age and month meet, and you will find the sex of your child.

The Origins of the Chinese Pregnancy Calendar

Supposedly the Chinese pregnancy calendar was buried in a royal tomb near Peking, China about 700 years ago. When the tomb was discovered, a scientist reproduced a copy of it. The original chart is currently preserved at the Institute of Science in Peking.

How Accurate is the Chinese Pregnancy Calendar?

The many Chinese Pregnancy calendars found today at pregnancy websites offer an interesting way to determine gender, but should only be used for entertainment purposes only. Some say that the calendar is over 90% accurate, while others disagree. Some argue that the Chinese pregnancy calendars available online do not take into consideration that the mother's age should be converted to Chinese lunar years before one can find the sex of the child. Which is true? You can test the calendar to find out. If you already have children, use your age and the month of conception, or even the ages and months of others to determine if the Chinese pregnancy calendar is accurate.
