Healthy Eating Tips for Kids

Most kids hear their parents say “eat your vegetables” at least once a day—and you’re probably no exception. But even if you don’t like vegetables that much, there’s still a lot you can do to make sure that you’re healthy and feeling good. Here are some ways you can get Mom to spice up those Brussel sprouts, or try something new for dinner that you’ll love to eat.

Eat healthy foods that you like

You can definitely find something in the kitchen that you love to eat that’s good for you, right? Of course! So, make sure that you’re eating enough of these types of foods to make you feel better each day—a healthy diet can help you to concentrate in class (even when it’s not that interesting—but, hey, you want to be ready for the pop quizzes, right?), give you the energy to play with friends, and even help you sleep better at night. If you’ve started packing your own lunches for school, or help your parents pack your lunch at night, choose the fruits and vegetables you want to eat the next day. And don’t forget to get enough fiber in your diet, too. You should eat whole grain breads, pasta and crackers each day to give you all the energy you need for the day. Dairy products, like cheese and yogurt, should also be a part of your diet. These foods have enzymes in them that help you to digest your food and get all the nutrients you need from each meal, and there’s great yogurt flavors that are made just for kids, so you can definitely find flavors you like.

Help in the kitchen

If you want your whole family to start eating healthy with you, why not volunteer to help Mom or Dad in the kitchen every once in a while? Using what you’ve learned about nutrition to help your family prepare meals can help to make sure that everyone is eating healthily, and your parents will love the fact that you’re willing to help. If you’re interested in cooking or making fun, original snacks that you’re sure no one at your lunch table will have, look through a few kid’s cookbooks with your parents to come up with foods that are fun to eat, easy to make, and most of all, good for you. You could become quite popular with your friends when they see the interesting treats you bring for lunch each day, or the great dishes you make with your parents when you invite them over for dinner.
