Pharmacy Orange County
Most pharmacies in Orange County, California are members of the CalOptima
Pharmacy network. Membership includes national chain stores as well as
independent pharmacies. While not all patients belong to CalOptima, the network
makes things easier for everyone by their network membership requirements.
What is CalOptima Pharmacy Network?
CalOptima administers healthcare for the aged, disabled or underprivileged
Orange County California citizens who are on MediCal. It also is in charge of a
network of 400 Orange County pharmacies and 290,000 Orange County Citizens.
Many of the pharmacists are able to speak many languages which makes
communicating with larger numbers of people possible and helpful.
Pharmacy Care Network has been contracted to handle claims, network management,
and other essential services for CalOptima. PCN also contracts with an outside
fraud unit whose job it is to ensure that member pharmacies are free from
fraud.
Pharmacy Options for People Not Involved in MediCal
Many of the pharmacies that are involved in CalOptima’s network are also part of
other networks as well. These other networks service the rest of the Orange
County population. From the large national chains to the small mom and pop
store, these pharmacies provide an essential service of dispensing needed
medication to those in time of need. With a large number of pharmacies
operating in the county, most consumers have one within a block of their home.
This can be especially helpful to those who do not have transportation.
For those citizens who know little about healthcare or who have been denied
coverage by their insurance companies, they may have an advocate with the
Orange County Health Consumer Action Center. They offer free information to
educate the poor about health care issues as well as stepping in as advocates
for those same patients when coverage is denied. They can be reached at
www.healthconsumer.org.
