Twin Babies
Mothers and fathers across the globe will attest to the fact that babies are
expensive. Some couples carefully plan their families, and do not conceive a
baby until their finances are in order. Of course, nature often has a mind of
its own. Unintentionally becoming pregnant with one baby may cause a slight
financial burden. However, becoming pregnant with twin babies may leave some
couples questioning how they will support two babies.
Skip the Doubles
Fortunately, there are some financial tips that will help couples with twin
babies. In hindsight, having two babies means the doubling of the dollar amount
that was calculated for one baby. Nonetheless, there are ways to support two
babies that does not involve spending a lot of extra money. For example,
parents of twin babies have a tendency to buy doubles of everything. This
includes playpens, clothes, toys, bouncers, and so forth. However, besides car
seats and cribs – twin babies can share everything else. Instead of buying two
of every outfit, buy singles and allow the babies to share. This will
drastically decrease the clothing bill.
Breastfeeding vs. Infant Formula
Infant formula is another huge expense that comes with having twin babies. On
average, a single baby may use an entire large canister of formula in one week.
Infant formula ranges in prices from $30 to $40. That’s approximately $120 a
month for one baby and $240 a month for twin babies. Instead of purchasing
formula, mothers may consider breastfeeding to save money. Because
breastfeeding may become painful, it may be better for mothers of twin babies
to pump their milk and feed infants from a bottle.
Decreasing the Daycare Bill
Parents of twin babies may also incur a huge daycare bill. Childcare is
expensive, with the average center charging $100 a child/per week. Fortunately,
some daycare centers are willing to offer small discounts for multiple babies.
Additionally, some employers offer childcare reimbursements.
